The Making of Rodney: Why I Wrote My First Children’s Book
As a pro football player, I realized at a young age that I was good at a few things. My dad nurtured within me a love of music and martials arts. It was important to him that I was disciplined and could express myself through music. So, he made sure that I participated in martial arts practice every week. He gave me a drum set and signed me up for lessons. I really enjoyed these activities yet soon learned that I had another love – football. Once I was given the opportunity to nurture my love of football, I excelled.
The rest of my story is history. As an adult, my parents continued to encourage me to share my gifts and talents. My dad used to tell me that I need to write a book and share my story with others. I disregarded his suggestion until one day, I was sharing my story with a good friend who said that my story would be a wonderful children’s book. At that moment, Rodney Makes the Team was born.
While my father is no longer physically here, he lives on through the joy and inspiration that the book creates for those who read it. I am so proud to be able to honor my father’s legacy by following his suggestion and publishing by story. I hope that it inspires readers to follow their hearts and dreams through their life journey.
